Board of DirectorsS.E.S.A.M.E. Board Member John SeryakJohn Seryak has a masters degree in education. John retired from public school teaching in 2006 after 35 years as a classroom teacher. He and Roseann Seryak have been married for 32 years and are proud parents of six adult children. In John's latter career years as an educator he became interested in child abuse and neglect issues from the classroom teacher's perspective. Using his studies for his masters degree, he developed The Dear Teacher Project. The Dear Teacher Project's mission statement embraced the need to educate classroom teachers as to the extent, degree and effects of child abuse and neglect on students in the classroom. Culminating John's research, he authored Dear Teacher, If You Only Knew! (Adults Recovering From Child Sexual Abuse Speak To Educators.) In addition to John's teaching, he periodically trains classroom teachers to fulfill required training in child abuse and neglect. John has also worked as a guardian ad litem with the Summit County Domestic Relations Court. John was named a Martha Holden Jennings scholar after completing the Jennings foundation program. He also graduated from the Child and Family Leadership Exchange sponsored by Children Services of Summit County, Ohio. John has served as advisor for the Cleveland area VOTF - Voice of the Faithful. He and Roseann periodically collaborate using poetry and dance to bring awareness to community groups about child abuse. John is available for public or private child abuse awareness training.
