What began nearly 40 years ago with a field hockey injury, a string of sexual abuses, and a systematic cover-up by one of the country’s most elite prep schools finally came to an end on Wednesday.
St. George’s, a Rhode Island boarding school, reached a settlement with up to 30 former students who suffered sexual abuse under the school’s watch between the 1970s and the 2000s. The amount was not disclosed, but the victims’ lawyer, Eric MacLeish, told the Boston Globe it was “very significant.”
Anne Scott, the aforementioned field hockey player, said it wasn’t about the money. “It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to receive this kind of validation and support, after all these years,” she told the Globe.
